A new poll, recently seeded by one of our usual suspects, suggests that people find Fox News to be the most trustworthy news source - with 50% of respondents giving it a 'very' or 'somewhat' believable ranking when compared to a number of other news sources.
A look at the statistics though suggest something worth noting and past polls substantiate this: Fox Viewers, who are overwhelmingly Republican (78% or so), find their favored mainstream news programming to be quite trustworthy; while those who identify as Democrats not only watch less television news, but are far more skeptical of such news programming even if the source's political leanings coincide with their own.
Now this begs the question; is Fox News being seen as the 'most trustworthy' news source something to even brag about? Why would any rational person find any of the television news sources to be particularly trustworthy? Much less one with such an obvious bias? If anything, this poll bespeaks to the gullibility of the Fox Viewership more than anything else, and the far more skeptical nature of non-Fox viewers regarding other mainstream media sources. The fact that left-wingers are far more skeptical of news which has a political bias in their own favor (and it appears right-wingers are not as skeptical of biased news in their own favor), I think, is something of which the left should be proud.
